Description: Castelnuovo once had a castle mentioned for the first time in 1136, probably on an estate called la Castellina or S. Giovanni, near Rio Sanguinario, whilst estimations between the 13th and 14th centuries mention this area as villa, Roman Curia and rural area of the countryside of Imola. The first memory of the church of S. Giovanni is contained in a document dating back to 29th November 1187.
